Fast Track:
The box you see above is know as the "Contactor Box" since it holds the main contactor that sets the speed of the motor. Looking at the high voltage wires on the left of the box, "-" is on the left and "+" next to it. This is a negative ground car so the positive lead on the right is the one that will the one manipulated feeding the juice to the engine.
The two cables then go to the inverter which converts the AC current in to three AC feeds that go to the engine.
The inverter feeds the contactor a variable signal that controls the speed of the motor.
The Details:
The left HV cable goes into the shunt and then on to the inverter. In same way, the right HV cable goes into the contactor and then on to the inverter.
The inverter has the most logical responsibility in the system. This picure is looking from the passenger side forward. It snhoows the two cables coming from the converter and shunt going foward to the inverter which is buried under the cables.
This picture shows the three cable going to the motor. The inverter gets its name because it inverts the high amp direct current back to three AC lines. Under the three cables and their motor connection is the motor itself.
