Connected to the J1772 plug is the actual charger and its controller. The fundamental purpose of the charger is to convert the incoming 220V AC to the Direct Current used by the batteris.
The Details:
In the Maggie's boot is the charge controller and charger as well as the batteries. The batteries are in the trunk in two large aluminum boxes which we will discuss later.
I was initally confused by the terms "charging system" and the "charger". Here we are discussin the the charger. The previous page discussed the charging system which plugs into house power.
The job of the charger is to receive the AC voltage from the charging system and convert it to DC, the current used in the batteries.
The charger is tjhe larger of the two boxes in the circle. The charger controller is the small white what box which has the brains of charging the battery.
The brains of the charger are in the small box. It does the thinking and lists features of:
• All charge parameters are user-configurable in the EVCC via text interface
• Communicates with J1772 Type 1 and Type 2 support equipment (EVSE) for home and public charging
• Automatic charge start and stop when plugging in with J1772
• Configurable delayed charging when plugging into a TOU capable J1772 EVSE
• Integrates with Dilithium BMSC to make a complete battery solution
• Outputs available for operator alerts, driveaway protection and other system functions
• Loop input feature allows charge interrupts via charge disable outputs from other BMS manufacturers
• Compatibility includes CAN-enabled TSM2500, 1500, ElCon, and Lear chargers, as well as compatibility with Orion BMS
• Configurable charge profiles for different charge configurations, power sources or SOC requirements
• Comes with an LED/Buzzer for operator alert
